Two new friends…

Dylan and Sadie met yesterday. We tried to let them meet a few weeks ago and it didn’t go so well so we opted to wait a while. I won’t be able to have help with introducing them for a few more days but the two seem to be doing pretty well. Monday I walked them with one off leash and the other on and they did very well. Dylan didn’t seem to mind when Sadie came up to get a treat right next to him when he was on leash. An even better sign of his comfort level was him coming up close to her to sit and get a treat as well. Sadie has calmed down a bit since she came to our house and seems to know better not to get right in other dogs faces while they are getting treats. I think Leon is a good dog to teach her a few manners!

Last night I took the two out on leash. Dylan was sniffing her and she was sniffing him. The two walked side by side without a single sign of discomfort from either of them. So I decided to let them loose when we got home to the yard. They didn’t seem to think a thing of it! I was so pleased but kept the session short. I did try to get a pic on my phone but Sadie doesn’t know how to stay yet (we are working on short durations though!). Anyway, pics didn’t work out so well!

Last night before bedtime, I let Dylan and Sadie out in the yard together. They both went potty and then Sadie got the great idea to play. She bowed and turned and ran and then circled and ran toward Dylan. Then the best thing happened! Dylan bowed and wagged and pointed and chased her around too!! I was thrilled! I was worried about letting them escalate too much though so I called Sadie in and put her to bed before letting Dylan in the house. I wanted to keep it short, sweet, and positive!!

We’ll do some more greetings tonight! I’m excited to see that Dylan is learning to be more comfortable with her. Hopefully that means we will be able to do off leash walks with all the dogs soon! I don’t want to introduce Marley into the mix though until I have some help since she tends to feed off of Dylan. She’ll react if he reacts so it’s best to make sure Dylan is completely comfortable before I put all three together!
