Blown Pads!!!

Poor little Dyl is once again walking around in pain! I let him overdo it yesterday despite my instincts that it was probably too much for him.

Paul took him out to the BLM lands that we love to walk at. I had to work and forgot to leave Dylan’s booties. The last few times he hasn’t needed them because the ground was moist and muddy. But yesterday it was dry. He seemed okay when I got home.

I had already made plans to walk at Liberty Park with a few of my friends. Marley couldn’t go because I knew she would be overdoing it and in pain with her hips after running earlier in the day. I was a bit concerned about taking Dylan but I did it anyway. I would have felt strange going for a walk without a leash in my hand! I should have taken Leon who can walk and walk and walk and not have problems with his poor pads. Dylan has the energy but his feet just can’t take it!

Our first loop around the park (about a mile and a half) Dylan seemed okay. When we started off on the second loop I noticed he seemed to be a bit off. We stopped so I could check his feet and I could immediately tell they were starting to get sore. One of his pads was cracking!!

So the poor boy sat in the car for our second loop. I borrowed my friend’s cute Aussie Shepard (Chase) and walked him instead. It just seems odd for me to walk without a dog by my side!!

His pads are looking okay today. He’s lost a bit of skin on the one but it’s not bad compared to incidents of the past. I have definitely learned to pay more attention to his feet on days like yesterday! I need to start doing the iodine treatments that my homeopathic vet recommended but I always forget! She also said he could have issues because his nails are SO long but we are working on that too! He is getting dremeled as often as possible with hopes that his nails will one day be able to stay at a decent length!!
